Hidden within the picturesque landscapes of the Cotswolds, Soho Farmhouse offers a unique blend of rural tranquillity and luxurious indulgence. With its 100-acre estate of rolling hills, chic accommodations, and exceptional amenities, this private members’ retreat promises an experience that feels both homely and otherworldly.
After hearing countless glowing reviews, I finally made the trip to Soho Farmhouse for a much-needed break with friends. You can read my full review of the experience here on my blog [https://benfreakley.co.uk/travel/soho-farmhouse-review], where I dive into the details of what makes this countryside escape so special. What followed was a truly unforgettable escape, packed with rustic charm, top-tier service, and countless memorable moments.
Arriving at Soho Farmhouse: From City to Serenity
The drive to Soho Farmhouse was a journey in itself, weaving through vibrant autumnal countryside that felt like a painting come to life. As I reached the estate, the welcome was warm and attentive, with staff ready to valet park my car and take care of my bags. Their offer to whisk me off to the main courtyard on a vintage milk float set the tone for the quirky yet luxurious vibe that defines Soho Farmhouse.
With complimentary EV charging available, I was reassured that exploring the surrounding area wouldn’t come with logistical hassles. The check-in process was swift, and the team’s friendly, down-to-earth nature immediately put me at ease. Rather than hopping onto a lift, I chose to walk to meet my friends, soaking in the estate’s peaceful ambience and meticulous design.
Exploring the Estate: Bicycles, Boutiques, and Farmyard Charm
Soho Farmhouse feels like a world of its own. As soon as I arrived, I met my friends and we stopped for lunch at The Hay Barn, where the Italian-Californian-inspired menu sounded delicious and perfect for a light bite. I opted for a fresh ranch salad paired with a pizzette, washed down with a crisp, cold beer – the perfect introduction to Farmhouse dining.
After lunch, I set off to explore the estate. From the beautifully curated Soho Home store and The Store X boutique to the tranquil lakes and quaint farmyard, every corner was a feast for the senses. The Temple bicycles dotted around the site were a game-changer, offering a stylish and practical way to navigate the sprawling estate. As we cycled past animals grazing in the fields and cosy cabins tucked among the trees, it was clear that Soho Farmhouse had struck a perfect balance between rustic charm and refined luxury.
The Piglet Room: Small Yet Perfectly Formed
When my room – affectionately named “The Piglet” – was ready, I was chauffeured there in true Soho style: a sleek Porsche Cayenne eHybrid. The Piglet is exactly as charming as its name suggests. A small but beautifully crafted hideaway, it combined the look of a traditional pig ark with the upscale touches Soho House is known for.
Inside, every detail was designed for comfort. The king-size bed with its luxurious linens was a highlight, but it was the smaller touches – like the Marshall Bluetooth speaker, dimmable ambient lighting, and fully stocked minibar – that made it feel truly special. The bathroom was equally indulgent, with premium Cowshed shower gel and shampoo products, Soho Skin facial care, and even grooming essentials laid out thoughtfully. After a long shower under the rainfall showerhead, I wrapped myself in the fluffy towels and relaxed on my porch, watching the sunset over the Cotswolds. Bliss.
Evenings at Soho Farmhouse: Cinema Nights and Cosy Bars
After trying out the different Cowshed shower gels in a long-steamy shower, I headed to the Electric Barn, Soho Farmhouse’s on-site cinema. Plush velvet armchairs and cosy footstools made for a luxurious viewing experience, even if the film itself wasn’t entirely my taste. The real magic came later at the Mill Room, a country pub-style bar with a roaring fire and a warm, welcoming vibe. Outside in the courtyard under a large canopy was another fireplace with comfy outdoor sofas and chairs to relax while nursing a glass of red wine. I felt completely at ease, the stresses of everyday life melting away.
Morning of Relaxation: Coffee, Swimming, and Lakeside Saunas
Waking up in the Piglet Room was a dream. I brewed a strong double espresso with the Nespresso machine and enjoyed it outside, the cool morning air mingling with the sounds of the countryside. After shaking off the last remnants of sleep, I headed to the gym for a quick workout, followed by a swim in the Boathouse pool.
Stepping into the heated outdoor pool as the crisp air swirled around me was pure magic. Even with some facilities temporarily closed for refurbishment, the wooden saunas set up beside the lake provided a rustic yet indulgent touch. Sitting there, wrapped in warmth and gazing out at the water, I felt a profound sense of calm.
The Cowshed Spa: Pampering at Its Best
If there’s one thing you must experience at Soho Farmhouse, it’s the Cowshed Spa. I booked myself in for a manicure, pedicure, and the signature massage, and it was nothing short of heavenly. The therapists were skilled and attentive, making every moment feel like a treat. I’d never had a pedicure before, but seeing other men enjoying the same treatment made me feel right at home. By the end of my session, I felt completely rejuvenated, my skin softened, and my mind calmed.
Local Adventures: Clarkson’s Farm and Daylesford Organic
While Soho Farmhouse is a destination in itself, its location in the Cotswolds means there’s plenty to explore nearby. As fans of Clarkson’s Farm, we couldn’t resist a visit to Diddly Squat Farm Shop, where quirky souvenirs and local produce awaited. Afterwards, we stopped by Daylesford Organic, a chic farm shop and café that felt like an extension of the Farmhouse’s sophisticated aesthetic.
Why Soho Farmhouse Stands Out
From the thoughtfully designed accommodations to the exceptional service, Soho Farmhouse delivers an experience that feels effortlessly indulgent. Whether it’s lounging by the fire, exploring the estate by bicycle, or unwinding in the spa, every moment is crafted to help you relax and reconnect.
For anyone seeking a luxurious countryside retreat, Soho Farmhouse is a must-visit. It’s more than a place to stay – it’s an escape from the ordinary.
